Central New Jersey: A Great Place To Live

Central New Jersey has developed from a suburb of New York City and Philadelphia into an economic power of its own right.

Central New Jersey is not a clearly defined area, as some people just refer to North and South Jersey. But by most definitions, Central New Jersey includes Union, Somerset, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Monmouth, Mercer, Warren and sometimes includes Ocean and Morris counties. Depending on the counties included, Central New Jersey has a population between 2 and 3 million residents.

Once a ‘bedroom community’ or commuter haven for those who worked in New York, Central New Jersey today has a powerful and diverse economy. Central New Jersey is home to many companies and a major center for pharmaceutical companies including Johnson and Johnson, Merck-Schering, Sanofi-Aventis, Hoffman La Roche, Novartis and Bristol-Myers Squibb) and communication companies (Verizon Wireless, Avaya, AT&T Vonage Communications and Telecorda). Other major employers in Central New Jersey include Merrill Lynch, Rutgers University, and Chubb Insurance.

Living in Central New Jersey has several benefits. For one, New Jersey is one of the best places to make a living with a median income that’s second in the nation statewide! Somerset and Hunterdon county consistently rank in the top 5 nationally for median income, and Middlesex, Monmouth, Mercer, Warren, Ocean and Morris aren’t usually far behind. New Jersey’s home to great schools throughout the state – including Bridgewater’s award-winning high school and Basking Ridge’s top ranked school, Rutgers University in New Brunswick and Princeton University. For these reasons and others, more and more people are deciding to call Central New Jersey home, which is why New Jersey has consistently posted growth both economically and in total population!

We serve ALL areas of Central New Jersey including Somerset, Hunterdon, Morris, Middlesex, Mercer, Warren, Union, and parts of Monmouth and Ocean counties. Bridgewater and Hillsborough is our biggest service area, but there are some other towns in Central New Jersey worth taking a look at, including:

Princeton: Princeton finds many commuters thanks to its located, almost exactly between New York and Philadelphia. Train service and major highways to both NYC and Philadelphia, along with beautiful neighborhoods make it a picture perfect place to live. Princeton has been ranked #15 on Money Magazine’s 100 best places to live. The home of Princeton University has a population of about 30,000.

Somerville: Somerville serves as the county seat of Somerset County and is another great commuter town thanks to its public transportation and proximity to major highways. Downtown Somerville is a vibrant community with many award-winning restaurants, as well as various retail stores. Somerville has a population of about 15,000

New Brunswick: New Brunswick is a small city with a big presence. Home to Rutgers University, one of the top-rated public colleges in the nation, and UMDNJ medical school, this city is also a corporate center – home to Bristol-Myers Squibb and Johnson and Johnson. There’s plenty to do and see in New Brunswick, with many award-winning restaurants downtown and a lively nightlife. Sometimes referred to as ‘health care city’ New Brunswick has a population of about 50,000.

Franklin Township: Franklin is one of New Jersey’s most diverse communities with people from every background residing in this lovely town, ranked #5 on Money Magazine’s best places to live. It’s proximity to New Brunswick makes it a great place for many workers to call home. Franklin is one of Central New Jersey’s bigger townships with approximately 50,000 residents, including neighborhoods like Somerset and Franklin Park.

Warren Township: Warren is a residential community near Bridgewater and Bernards Township with a reputation for serenity and great schools, making it the 5th best place to live in the nation according to CNNmoney.com. Warren Township has a population of about 16,000.

Branchburg Township: A scenic community with much lush forestry, this suburban community borders Hillsborough and Raritan Townships. It’s the seventh largest town in Somerset County, coming in with a population of about 15,000.

Real Estate Tips
Disclosure Laws >Full Disclosure

You are about to list your home. Since you have lived there for many years, you know that it is not perfect. For example, there might be a leak in the basement that is noticeable only after a heavy rain. Your garage door might stick, and the dishwasher may be prone to work stoppages.

Every home has a few quirks. When it is time to sell your home, you have a choice of either making the necessary repairs or letting the buyers know about the problems. Material defects must be fully disclosed.

Some buyers will order a structural inspection in order to learn exactly what they will be getting. Even if the buyers don't ask for an expert to look at the house, it is the seller's responsibility to disclose any known defects in the property. The seller's agent will provide the disclosure form, wherein the seller may itemize any problems. Sellers may avoid any real estate lawsuits over undisclosed defects by making repairs before the sale or agreeing to a price adjustment during the transaction if defects are discovered.
